Our Next FHE lesson:

How to sit quietly in Sacrament meeting and not drive mommy mad!

Today was pretty bad. All Erik does the ENTIRE time, is find ways to escape and run away from me. Sure, I can distract him for maybe TEN seconds, but the other thousands of seconds is me chasing after him, picking him up and sitting back down on the bench just so he can throw his head back and try to get away again. Today, I must have lost it, because I suddenly got really tired and wasn't paying attention to him for a few seconds. I looked up and one of my friends was walking by our bench telling me, "Don't worry, I will go get him." I looked down at the bench where he was only ten seconds ago and he was gone! I looked back and he was already out of the chapel and down the hall. I could not just let my friend stay out there, so I ran out as well. When I got a hold of Erik, I saw Bria running towards me. She went out the other door of the chapel and ran around the church. I thought I was going to die! We went back into the chapel, sat down and Erik screamed while flailing his arms and legs all over the place. Oh, this was only the fourth time. I took him out and went into a classroom so our uncontrollable noise wouldn't be distracting. Derek said he could still hear him, but I tried! I finally got him to calm down and took him back in during the closing hymn so that I could clean up the huge mess my kids made. As soon as the closing prayer was being said, Erik got up and ran again. I was stuck in all the dumb toys and couldn't grab him. He ran all the way to the back of the chapel and around up to the front. I felt so dumb running after my child during the prayer! Oh well, I can't stay mad at my kids too long because they bring me more joy than anything can in this entire world. It is just hard to realize that in the moment!
They have been up to some fun stuff this week...

Bria has been way into dressing up in her princess dresses, but the costume isn't complete without her hat! She is also playing with her baby doll for the first time! She has never been into girly things until now. She dresses and feeds her and puts her to bed. She loves her purse too. She has to take it everywhere. It is so cute.

Erik is exploding with more words each day. He also has picked up a few more songs to sing. He is absolutely in love with "The Lion Sleeps tonight" right now. He actually does the little gurgly high note "Ee-ee-umbumbaway" He loves it! He has to watch it twice in a row on You tube or else he cries, "More wumbaway!"

He has also found more places to hide. I found him under the table in the basket the other day reading his books. He looked so adorable in there, but when I took the picture, he hurried and got out.

Brooke is getting that way with me in sacrament. There have been times when Blake is not there to help so I just get up and leave and go home because I can't stand it. I try to contain her and she'll cry or scream her head off. Luckily, there are some nice people who help me sometimes to hold and entertain her. Once this mad gave her a comb out of his pocket and of course Brooke puts in her mouth and I about puked. Good luck!

Oh, I feel your pain. Well, not completely, at least I had Taylor's help! I get you have thought "why do I even bother coming!". I thought that all the time with Kenzi! Hang in there!

lol, that is so cute about Erik and the songs he chooses to like. "Lions" seem to be a running theme with him. :)

Hang in there. It is tough, but it is worth it in the end. You will figure it out and so will the kids. Eventually you will find a common ground and what works for you guys.

This reminds me of all the times I chased Caden when we were in the AV ward. I hope you don't remember it. :) And if you don't, maybe that is some comfort to you?

Thank you so much for posting this! Two weeks ago, we were sitting in the overflow area at our church, and Grant took one step away from me and then bolted off into a dead run up to the front of the chapel. I chased him up to the front, then he turned back at me, gave me a mischievous grin, ran across the front row to the opposite side of the chapel and back down the other side and out into the chapel. I chased him up to the front - got a dirty look from the Stake President, and finally caught up with him out in the foyer. All of this happened while the deacons were passing the sacrament . . . It's nice to know I'm not the only one struggling!
