Happy Birthday Derek!

We love Christmas Eve because it has always been my favorite day of the year, and it is also Derek's birthday, so we have to party extra hard! And this year we sure did. We woke up, had a big breakfast and got ready to go sledding with the Baileys. We went up the canyon and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! At home, the inversion covered the sky and the air wasn't very good. When we got out of the car, I looked up and saw blue skies and the air was so fresh. We had SO much fun with the kids. I definitely got my exercise for the day! It sure felt good to be up in the beautiful mountains with my family and running in the snow like we were kids too! It was hard to leave, but we got really cold:)

After we got home from sledding, we cleaned up and got busy for our Christmas Eve/birthday dinner. Derek and I spent the day in the kitchen cooking and getting ready for our first Christmas Eve in our own home. We were so excited! Erik was such a good kid and slept the entire time we were cooking! It was so fun to be with my husband, cleaning up after his beautiful messes. He is one incredible chef! I love it. He made lasagna with HOMEMADE noodles...MMM, and a pumpkin pie and coconut cream pie. Derek got his talent from his mom, because his pie crust is really good! We set the table and waited for Teresa and Duane to arrive (Derek's sister and husband). Teresa brought homemade breadsticks and french bread, an apple pie, and caramels. We had the best Christmas dinner! Everything was made from scratch and it was absolutely heavenly. The noodles just melted in your mouth!

Bria and her uncle "Duey" dancing together. So cute!

After dinner, we read the nativity and sang hymns and then made a huge mess doing this:Then Bria and Erik got to open their Christmas Eve jammies from Grandma and Grandpa Anderson. Can you tell how much Bria loves hers?
We then opened presents. Teresa and Duane gave Bria a Nutcracker and Erik a stuffed bear. Then they gave them both glow sticks which were a huge hit! Then Derek read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and we sent the kids off to bed. Yeah right. Bria could not go to sleep, she was so excited. The kids probably went to sleep around 10:15. Bria kept telling me, "I want to show Santa my glow stick." She was determined to wait for him! It was so funny. When the kids finally fell asleep, Santa got to work. It was so much fun setting up all their toys. I think I was more excited than the kids, which after seeing Bria that night may have been hard to believe!

Looks like your holidays have been lots of fun! I bet it's great to see your children get excited for Christmas like Bria is. Happy Birthday Derrick! My sister's b-day is Dec. 26th so we know all about partying extra hard around the holidays!

Happy Birthday, Rick! You probably won't believe this, but we were thinking of you on your big day. Lance said, "I need to go call Rick," at least once and then thought he'd send you an e-mail and then thought you wouldn't get it since you weren't at work and blah, blah, blah. So, I don't think you heard from us, but I hope you had a dandy of a birthday! It looks like a good one!
