Bria's first Stitches
Last Saturday Bria got her very first stitches. I am surprised that we hadn't had any stitches up to that point, but I guess it happens no matter how careful you are as a parent. In fact, Derek was standing only a few feet away from her and couldn't stop it from happening.
Derek took Bria to the church to clean. While they were in the Relief Society room cleaning up, Bria was jumping up and down by the table with the moveable podium on it. She grabbed the podium, thinking it was part of the table, and jumped up. She fell backwards and the entire podium fell on top of her, the corner of it landing right on her eye. Derek ran over, picked up the podium and there was blood everywhere. He grabbed her and cleaned her up the best he could and got a ride home from one of our friends. Luckily I wasn't there, because I cannot handle seeing horrible things happen to my children. I was at home and Derek walked in the door, carrying Bria with blood covering both their clothes. I suddenly panicked, but somehow, like every mom does, put myself together for her sake. Bria was scared to death because of all the blood and I didn't want to scare her more from reacting.
We got her all cleaned up and looked at the wound. It really didn't look like it needed stitches and so Derek went to buy butterfly bandaids to put on it. When he got back and tried to put it on, Bria freaked out and cried. I looked closer as she furrowed her eyebrows and almost passed out. The gash was a lot deeper than we thought. It went all the way back to her skull. Derek immediately put her shoes on and took her in to get stitches. I stayed home with Erik and I think it was better for Bria because she was SO brave. She didn't cry once and held so still for the doctor. We were so proud of her.
We were also extremely blessed. If the podium went even a centimeter lower, it would have gone right into her eye and could have possibly damaged her eye sight. I am so grateful that she was watched over and protected and that the spirit was there to comfort her while getting stitches.
That morning while all this was happening, there was a primary party that Bria was so excited to go to. She had to miss it because she was getting stitches. She was so upset when she found out that it was over and kept telling me, "I want the same party." I felt so bad for her, so we spoiled her rotten. After getting stitches, Derek got her an ice cream cone and picked up some free popcorn and a snow cone they were giving out at the store. Then Bria and I took that popcorn and went to see the movie, "How to Train your Dragon" at the dollar theatre and then we went to Thanksgiving Point and rode on the ponies (we have passes, so we weren't just blowing all our money). I also made a chocolate cake so it was an official party. I don't feel bad spoiling her like that because all she was doing was trying to help clean the church and she just got unlucky. I just love that little girl so much and am so proud of her and we are so glad she is okay!

I just got all caught up! That is so scary about Bria. I am so glad that she is okay. Good for you for not freaking out!!! LOVED reading about your trip to Canada. Especially because I have been to some of those places! Taylor and I went to Waterton park the day we got engaged. Good times!
Oh no! That is very scary! I'm glad she was so brave and the cut didn't damage her eye. Hopefully this is the last accident for a while!
Wait, wait what about a picture? It sounds like a great day though despite the stitches part. I hate it when my kids have to have stitches, Bria was so brave. Tell her the boys want to make sure she is okay!! Love you and miss you all!!
Poor little sweetie!! What a crushing moment to experience as a mommy!!
